About this Talk

We started our project Food Security Jugaad as an organic solution to pandemic-induced food insecurity in vulnerable urban areas in the Global South. We'd like to spread the message about food security and to use the concept of jugaad (a Hindi term describing frugal innovations) - to create regenerative microbusinesses while restructuring local food systems for more healthy, circular neighbourhoods.

Please read and sign our open letter at https://bit.ly/foodsecurityjugaad. We want to help informal settlements everywhere develop food resilience - and to take this opportunity to rethink our global industrial food system and its massive environmental impact.

Leading this project are Samantha Suppiah (Urban Doughnut) and Chris Jones (FeedingCities), inspired by Maryam Manuel Salie's work with the Sandvlei United Community Organisation in Cape Town, South Africa.
